1. Inspect All Components Before Assembly
Never assume reused parts are safe. Before starting:
Clean and visually inspect all rims, flanges, lock rings, and bead seats.
Look for cracks, corrosion, distortion, or missing metal.
Ensure bolt holes are not elongated or damaged.
Replace any component that shows wear beyond OEM limits.
Confirm all parts belong to the same rim series (Eg.: 25x10.00/1.7 vs. 25x10.00/3.0 are not interchangeable).

2. Always Deflate Before Dismounting
Before removing any wheel from a vehicle:
Completely deflate the tire by removing the valve core.

Never loosen or remove a lock ring while the tire contains air pressure.

3. Use the Right Tools and Equipment
Proper tools protect both personnel and components.
Use certified tire spreaders, bead breakers, and safety cages for heavy duty applications.
Avoid hammering lock rings with improvised tools.
Use non marring bars and drivers to prevent flange damage.
For large OTR or mining tires, employ remote inflation systems and safety barriers.

4. Lubricate and Align Properly

5. Inflate Safely
Always inflate tires inside a safety cage or behind a restraining barrier.
Use a clip-on chuck and remote inflation hose at least 3 meters long.
Inflate to manufacturer’s specified pressure no more, no less.
If the beads or lock rings don’t seat by 35 psi (2.4 bar), stop, deflate, and recheck alignment.

Always tighten nuts in a crisscross/star pattern for even load distribution.
Inspect stud and nut threads replace if damaged or stretched.
7. Mark, Record, and Reinspect
Use torque indicator tags or paint marks for visual checks.
Keep records of wheel assemblies, tire pressures and inspection dates.
Reinspect wheels periodically for air loss, loose hardware or abnormal wear.
8. Train and Supervise Technicians
Even experienced mechanics benefit from refresher training.
Conduct annual safety certification for all tire and wheel handlers.
Post regional safety posters in workshop areas.
Establish clear “no go zones” during inflation.
9. Know When to Scrap a Wheel
If any of the following exist, remove the wheel permanently from service:
Visible cracks or deformation
Excessive corrosion or pitting
Lock ring that won’t seat flush
Rim that fails nondestructive testing (NDT)
Saving a few dollars by reusing unsafe parts can cost lives.
10. Respect Inflation Pressure and Load Ratings
Always match wheel, tire, and valve components to their rated capacity.
Never exceed maximum inflation pressure printed on the tire sidewall.
For duals, ensure equal pressure to avoid sidewall flex and heat buildup.
